This document will detail how to release upgrade a landscape server from lucid to precise. In the document, the quickstart case will be examined. This process would be similiar for non-quickstart, just repeated across servers. First a general outline of the upgrade process:

  • Make sure Lucid is up-to-date
  • Make sure the installed LDS is at the latest 11.07 release
  • Upgrade LDS to version 12.09
  • Enable 3rd party sources
  • Release upgrade to precise

Make sure you do the following:

Detailed Procedure

Before proceeding, please make sure you have followed the advice in the prerequisite section! After doing that, follow the step-by-step proceduces below.

Update to 12.09

12.09 is the first version of Landscape to support Ubuntu precise (12.04 LTS) and Ubuntu lucid (10.04 LTS). You must be upgraded to this version of Landscape before proceeding with the release upgrade.

Enable 3rd Party Sources

First, examine /etc/sources.list and /etc/sources.list.d/*, making sure only sources that you want enabled during your upgrade are present. Once you are comfortable with the enabled sources, you need to allow 3rd party sources (non-ubuntu) to be used during the release upgrade process:

sudo mkdir -p /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.d
sudo sh -c 'echo "[Sources]\nAllowThirdParty=yes" >> /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.d/allow.cfg'

Release Upgrade

Time to run the release upgrade:

sudo do-release-upgrade

You will need to answer a few questions along the way depending on the packages installed. Remember to answer No for any questions about replacing landscape config files.

Once finished, you should have a fully upgraded installation of LDS.
